Garcon Rouge stems from the most prolific branch of the Blushing Groom sire line. Garcon Rouge’s sire, Mt. Livermore, has sired 9 millionaires, 6 champions, 2 Eclipse Award winners and 2 voted Horse of the Year. Of the 754 starters he has sired, 568 were winners and 66 were stakes winners. Mt. Livermore was a top sprinter himself, winning the 1985 Carter Handicap (G2) in 1:20 4/5 for seven furlongs at Aqueduct, that year's Fall Highweight (G2) and Boojum (G3) Handicaps and the Jaipur Stakes. He was third in the 1985 Breeders' Cup Sprint. His sire Blushing Groom was one of the greatest postwar sires, being a champion 2yo in France in 1976 and Champion Miler in Europe in 1977. Over 18% of his foals were stakes winners and 5% were G1 winners. Among these were the 7 champions Blushing Groom sired in his 12 years at stud.
Garcon Rouge’s dam is also from an impressive bloodline. Her sire Heros Honor, winner of multiple GI races, is by the great Northern Dancer and out of 1993 broodmare of the year, Glowing Trubute. Along with Heros Honor, Glowing Trubute also produced Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Sea Hero and 6 other major stakes winners. Sea Hero also won the Travers (G1) and Champagne Stakes (G1) and earned nearly $3 million. Glowing Trubute’s name is prominent in many pedigrees today. For example, Hero's Honor, is also the broodmare sire of Elusive Quality, the sire of 2004 Derby and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Smarty Jones and multiple G1 winner Quality Road. Her sire Graustark was sire to 3 other champions. Garcon Rouge’s second dam Hot Milk, a stakes winner at 2, is a full sister to 3 other stakes winners.
Of the Mt. Livermore line sires, Garcon Rouge is the second highest earner in the US and the highest earner in Illinois. Although he entered at stud in 2003, he was used primarily as a private farm stallion. He is sire to only 23 starters, 10 of which are winners and 2 of those were 2yo winners. He is sire to 1 black type placer and his chief earner has earnings of over $95,000. On the track he won twice as a 2-year-old, broke his maiden at Churchill Downs and won an allowance race at Fair Grounds. As a 3-year-old he competed in the Southwest Stakes and Louisiana Derby. Having won 19 races throughout his career he always demonstrated a strong, competitive will to win and always managed to stay 100% sound. He is currently still an exceptionally sound, healthy horse. He also demonstrates a very nice disposition.
