Holly Mathis

Owner/General Manager

Holly earned a four year Bachelor of Science in Equine Animal Science from Southern Illinois University (2004). She is lead in monitoring and employing breeding programs for bloodstock. She has foaled numerous horses, including aiding in dystocia deliveries. Holly also manages Ridgewood’s available business services, including standing stallions for others to the public, and breeding commercially.

After graduation from SIU, Holly rendered experience in the breeding barns of thoroughbred operations. Other equine experiences include the state of Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio licensed open horse show judge, and daily training and exercising of national competition winning halter horses. During college, Holly represented the College of Agriculture to aid SIU in ranking first statewide and top nationally in collegian competition. She was awarded the American Society of Animal Science Achievement Award, and other awards and honors. While building the conception of Ridgewood, she has earned contract and business experience as Procurement Coordinator at a dam being constructed across the Ohio river. Her knowledge and experience in business and contracting gives you, the stallion/ mare owner confidence to smooth, well working business services.

Holly has been involved with horses since youth. Her family in Minnesota is named in the Canterbury Park Hall of Fame for contributions to the thoroughbred industry (Bob Morehouse), and her cousin Gerry Waite is a retired standardbred trainer.

John Mathis

Owner/Director

John is Director of Ridgewood Stables, LLC. He is lead in Ridgewood’s Racing Division, which races at premier tracks across the United States.

John has been involved with horses since youth. From occasionally helping his Grandfather take care of racehorses as a young boy, to participating in rodeos during high school and college, and now the breeding a foaling operation. John’s family raced thoroughbreds openly throughout the United States.

Farrier

Bill Lilly

Bill has 45 total years of experience in farrier services. He has previously provided farrier services specific to the racing industry. Bill provides all of Ridgewood’s farrier services.
